Defining the Data
Before designing a report some data needs to be defined, and this is done through the Dataview Workspace.
Select the [Dataview] tab.
This will present a blank screen!
Select the File menu from this screen.
NOTE
Make sure that the [AutoJoin] element is selected (ticked, above). This will ensure that if two or more tables are selected they will automatically be joined. In addition, it will also help you select tables that are relevant to each other, and will grey out those that do not have a direct relationship with the tables selected.
Select [New] from the [File] menu.
This will present two options, the Query Wizard and the Query Designer.
Select the [Query Wizard] Icon.
This will now step through the required elements to capture the data needed for the report.
First of all select the table of data required by highlighting the required table in the left column Available Tables and moving it to the right Selected Tables either by double clicking the mouse or using the arrows in the centre of the screen.
For this simple report, select DC: Doc Details.
Select [Next>].
This brings the field selection screen where accepting the default will allow all fields from the table selected to be made available for the report. Alternatively you could select the [Choose Fields] button and select only the fields you want in the report.
Select [Next>].
This allows the choice of which rows of information from the selected Tables and Fields can be used. Once again selecting Define Search Criteria will allow limited rows of data to be returned or select All Rows to bring back all the rows from the selected tables.
Select [Next>].
Select the Set Order and from the left hand column, for example select [DC:Doc Details.ID] and move it to the right hand column.
Press[Finish].
